Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child

*This post was originally posted on Travel & Pictures*

Have you ever come across a video or a post that really touched you? You see it and you know that you want to be a part of it?
That’s what happened to me a few months ago when I was scrolling on Facebook and saw a video for the charity Samaritan’s Purse, Operation Christmas Child. (Just a little disclaimer, I’m not affiliated with this charity at all, it’s just something I really enjoyed doing and wanted to share it with you!)

So what is Operation Christmas Child? Basically you pack a box (shoe box, or a box of similar size) with toys and other useful items like tooth brushes, bars of soap etc. and a child gets to open this box around Christmas filled with all of the items you chose specifically for them! Since this charity is run through churches, it is also a plan to help the children connect with their religion and Jesus. I’m personally not the most religious person, but I think it’s wonderful that they can connect with what they believe in, and I’m more than happy to help with that!

When you’re choosing items for your child, you can choose either a boy or girl, and you check an age box, either ages 2-4, 5-9, 10-14 and you choose the items based on what you think would be appropriate for that age range.

I really enjoyed participating in this movement this year. Helping under privileged children celebrate Christmas is such a wonderful way to bring joy to someone in need, and it’s a great way for you to celebrate Christmas (if that’s your thing) as it really gets you into the joy of giving!
It might be too late to build your own box this year, but you can still donate online to build one virtually!
