How I Got Rid of Acne and Fine Lines

Growing up I always struggled with acne and I hated it. It was so hard to hide the red bumps that showed no mercy, making their presence known at the least opportune times. Lucky as I’ve gotten older, I have found good makeup products that help to hide their severity, but it wasn’t until recently that I have found what has really worked to keep most of my pimples at bay, and the ones who do find their way through, aren’t nearly as noticeable and tend to fade much quicker than I’ve ever experienced.

Now that I finally figured out this however, I’ve noticed more fine lines developing on my skin. I know that wrinkles are normal, and I’ve never minded smile lines around my eyes. One morning though I woke up like normal, walked into my bathroom, and had a DEEP, LONG line straight across my forehead!! That was the first day that I truly got serious about daily skin care. As I looked through older pictures, I could see I’ve had this line very faintly over the past few years which wasn’t really a big surprise, I always got sunburns across my forehead, so there was definitely some damage done there. What did surprise me was how fast it made itself known! I have serums and cream that I love but would use only occasionally, so after this line showed up, I began using them religiously! I am very picky about what products I use because my face will break out with most moisturizers, and I’ve only found one eye cream in my life that didn’t make my eyes water and luckily they both fit in very well with my new daily skin regime. I have a day and night serum as well that I was never really using, and they have been instrumental in keeping away pimples and getting rid of the new lines that were on my face!

Also I’ve been making more changes to my diet. Naturally I’ve cut down on the amount of sugar I eat, but I still drink coffee most days of the week which is very dehydrating, thus causing fine lines to show faster. To combat that, I’ve amped up my water intake which has also proven very helpful for my skin all across the board. Not only have the wrinkles deminished, but my skin itself looks more vibrant and healthy on my entire body, so make sure you’re drinking as much water as possible!

Anyways, check out below for my skin routine and the exact products that I’ve been using to combat acne and fine lines!

Lately I’ve been using the Ole Henriksen Aloe Vera face wash! As you can see, I’m almost out of it! When this runs out, chances are I will hop over to the Clinique Acne Solutions because I like to mix up my face wash between the two brands! I also love to use this wash with my Clarisonic, but I need to replace the head on it. I tried to boil the brush to kill off bacteria when I noticed it was starting to make me break out, but that only worked for about a week. I haven’t gotten around to buying a new head for it for a few months now, so this works perfectly fine with just your hands as well, especially if you wear little to no makeup daily like I do.

These are my daily go-to’s. These days after I wash my face, if I don’t feel like doing anything else I will religiously still put on my Kiehls Wrinkle Reducing Eye Cream and my Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation Perfecting Moisturizer. I actually began using the Kiehls eye cream after trying a sample and realizing it’s the only eye cream I’ve ever used that didn’t make my eyes water at all! So the wrinkle reducing is just a side benefit for me. The Ole Henriksen Moisturizer is also the only face cream I’ve been able to use that gives me enough moisture without causing any pimple breakouts! I ran out of the cream recently and tried a few other creams I had around, and they were too thick, oily, or drying for my skin, so luckily I received an Ole Henriksen gift set from my mom for Christmas and my skin is thrilled to be back with it!

I’ve finally gotten around to adding serums into my daily routine, and I’ve definitely noticed a huge change to my skin ever since. I don’t have a lot of experience with serum from other brands, but I can honestly say I don’t even have an urge to try out other brands right now because I’m loving these. I only typically wash my face once a day in the shower unless I wore makeup all day, and normally my showers are at night, so I will sometimes use the Truth Serum in the evenings instead of the Night Transformation Gel, but it works out to be pretty balanced as you can see by the amount of product remaining in the bottles.

These products are more occasional products for me. I always use Tea Tree Oil on pimples and I’ve found that this brand works really quickly at taming them before they get too big. I also use the Facial Radiance Pads from First Aid Beauty a few times a week, typically on days where I haven’t used a face scrub just to slough off dead skin and help brighten my face. Not pictured is also the Ole Henriksen Walnut Scrub. I use it about twice a week and it smells amazing! It’s gentle but feels very thorough. Also another product I wanted to touch on is Korean skincare charcoal sheet masks! I found a brand that I LOVE at a Winners store. I feel like the amount of pimples I get went down dramatically after using it. Bonus, it only cost $8 for a pack of 5! Unfortunately though I finished them all and haven’t been able to find them again, so I might have to try out another brand!

Here is the overview of all of the products I use on a daily to weekly basis. All of these products can be found at Sephora, except for the Tea Tree which can be found at pretty much any drugstore or grocery store!

I’d just like to add that this post is NOT sponsored at all. I realize there’s a lot of talk about Ole Henriksen products, but that’s just because I’ve honestly found that’s what works for my skin. It’s also a Danish brand which I love since my background is Danish, so I love to support those brands!

If you have any holy grail products you think I should try, please leave them below so I can test them out!
